Caesar Cipher Encoder and Decoder

Encode or decode a Caesar cipher with any integer letter shift. Preserve letter case, punctuation, and Unicode text in your browser.

How to shift letters

  1. Enter your text and choose an integer shift.
  2. Choose Encode to move forward or Decode to move backward.
  3. Copy the result. Use the same shift to reverse an encoded message.

Example and ROT13

With shift 3, Hello becomes Khoor. A shift of 13 is ROT13: applying it twice restores the original text. Shifts wrap around the 26-letter English alphabet.

What stays unchanged?

Uppercase and lowercase are preserved. Numbers, punctuation, spaces, accented letters, and emoji stay unchanged. Negative shifts move in the opposite direction. Input is limited to 100,000 UTF-16 code units and shifts to integers between -1,000,000 and 1,000,000.

Is this secure encryption?

No. Caesar ciphers are easy to reverse and are intended for puzzles, learning, and casual text obfuscation. Do not use them to protect secrets.
