Duration Converter

Break a duration into days, hours, minutes, seconds, and milliseconds without date or timezone assumptions.

How to convert a duration

  1. Enter a number and choose its unit.
  2. Read the normalized days, hours, minutes, seconds, and milliseconds.
  3. Copy the breakdown and exact totals.

Example: seconds to days and hours

90061.125 seconds equals 1 day, 1 hour, 1 minute, 1 second, and 125 milliseconds. Decimal inputs such as 1.5 hours are supported. A negative sign applies to the entire duration.

Precision and limits

Inputs accept up to three decimal places and must resolve to whole milliseconds. Fractional milliseconds are rejected instead of rounded. Integer arithmetic keeps large totals exact, with a 100-character input limit. Use a decimal point without commas or exponent notation.

Durations versus dates

A day here always means 24 hours. This is elapsed-time arithmetic; it does not account for calendar months, daylight saving changes, or leap seconds. To convert an epoch timestamp to a date, use the Unix Timestamp Converter.

The conversion runs locally with JavaScript. No upload or account is needed.
