Percentage Change Calculator

Calculate percentage increase or decrease from an original value to a new value, with the absolute difference and a clear calculation formula.

How to calculate percentage change

  1. Enter two nonnegative values separated by a comma: original, new.
  2. Read the increase or decrease and the absolute difference.
  3. Copy the result with its formula.

Formula and example

Percentage change = (new - original) / original × 100. Going from 80 to 100 is a 25% increase. Going from 100 to 80 is a 20% decrease: reversing the values changes the baseline.

Zero and supported values

When the original value is zero, percentage change is undefined, including zero to zero. The tool still reports the difference. Negative baselines are excluded to avoid ambiguous increase and decrease labels. Use ordinary decimals with up to 12 integer digits and 6 decimal places, without grouping separators or exponent notation.

Precision and percentage points

Results use exact integer arithmetic and round to six decimal places. Very small changes can round to zero. This calculates relative change, not percentage-point difference: a rate moving from 10% to 15% increases by 50%, or 5 percentage points.
